Finding good vegan food in Pai should be relatively easy. Like I tell in the Pai introduction, this village has a pretty high percentage of healthy, Western and more conscious food.
At night the main street will be filled with all kinds of stalls. From artists selling their work to old ladies selling vegan samosas.
You can get lots of shakes with combinations I haven’t seen much around here. You can add avocado, carrot, ginger, herbs and so on. Some don’t even have sugar in them by default. Next to the shakes, vendors will also sell fresh fruit for a very reasonable price.
I’ve had some fresh spring rolls and veggie burgers. Grilled jacked sweet potatoes and corn. Vegan samosas and plenty of shakes. Enough to choose from! If you can’t choose just do an entire street buffet!
At night the streets are filled with a good vibe and lots of energy, during the day people are mostly sightseeing on a scooter or chilling at a pool so it is a bit quiet in the village itself.
For restaurants I use the following categorization:
Vegan = fully vegan restaurant
Vegan friendly = vegetarian restaurant with vegan options
Veggie friendly = sells animals but has some vegan options
Vegan Chinese restaurant (vegan) – $
A lot of vegan food to choose from. Biggest amount of meat substitutes I have seen so far. Even fish in shape of a real fish (didn’t try it though).
Food was good and it was easy to find: just look for the big vegan sign next to the road.
Om Garden (veggie friendly) – $$
The name says a lot about this place. The garden is looking amazing and you will even feel better when you will see their food! Although also selling non-vegan food, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the menu has quite some options to choose from. Like in most cases you’ll pay a bit more for their ambiance but at least the portions are well sized and the food tasty!
Other than these there will be a lot of restaurants having a decent amount of vegan/vegetarian dishes. Also check out the where-to-eat-list made by Mostly Amelie.
Just before we left I saw this sign. Couldn’t check it out myself but give it a try! Apparently there is also a farmers market, too bad I missed this one as well. Better luck next time!
